Preparation of Local Development Strategy (LDS)

16 January 2008

We are delighted to report that, following consideration by a regional panel of initial expressions of interest, the Greensand Ridge Local Action Group has been invited to submit a full Local Development Strategy. Many thanks to those who have already commented or come to workshops.  The deadline for the submission of the LDS is 14 March, only 2 months away. Please watch this space for further information about future LAG meetings, and how to get involved if you are not already.

17 December

The first meeting of the prospective Local Action Group on 19 November was attended by 42 people representing a range of interests. All those who had asked to be kept informed as well as a range of other potentially interested parties were subsequently consulted on the draft Expression of Interest for the Greensand Ridge, prior to its submission to EEDA by the deadline of 10th December.

EEDA's selection process for the LEADER programme is in two stages.  We expect to hear in January whether, based on the Expression of Interest we have submitted, we will be part of the second stage which is the preparation of a full Local Development Strategy.  Further details of the timetable are  shown below.

2 November

The first meeting of the prospective Local Action Group has been arranged for 2pm on Monday 19 November at Shuttleworth College.  This meeting is a crucial milestone in the preparation of the bid, as it will be the only LAG meeting before the submission of the Expression of Interest in December. There will be an opportunity to contribute further to the issues being addressed by the bid, and to influence the outline Local Development Strategy for the area. It will also look at how the Local Action Group would function and be structured, and how participants can contribute. If you are interested in attending, please contact Jane Markham 01525 878149 no later than Monday 12 November.

 23 October

The first meeting of the prospective Local Action Group is being arranged for mid-November. Output from the workshops on 15 October is now available:

Land-based industries workshop
Rural economy workshop
Environment workshop
Rural communities workshop

15 October -  We invited parish plan groups, parish councils, P3 groups, farmers and land-based businesses in the Greensand Ridge area, as well as a wide range of organisations, to an Open Meeting on 15 October.  There was a lot of enthusiasm for the bid and some exciting ideas are already emerging.   Our thanks to Mid Beds District Council for hosting the meeting at its Chicksands offices.

You can see the presentations and information from the 15 October meeting:

Powerpoint presentation on the EU funding by Emma Powlett, EEDA
Powerpoint presentation on Greensand Ridge bid by Jon Boswell, BRCC
"Bite-sized" guide to the Leader bid

19 September - East of England Development Agency (EEDA) launched its prospectus for the EU Leader approach.
